Be Part of the 2017 Round Rarotonga Road Race!

The 40th Annual Running of the Round Rarotonga Road Race is set to go this September!  Downunder Travel has had team members participate, as well as sponsor, in this Race Week in the Cook Islands in the past.  In 2012, Downunder Travel hosted Martin “Marathon Man” Parnell (who ran 250 Marathons in 2010 and raised over C$320k for the children’s charity, Right To Play. Martin Ran the Round Rarotonga Road Race not once, not twice, but three times!  He then rounded it up to 7kms to make it an even 100kms.  His efforts were not without problems, all of which can be read about in his latest book “Running to the Edge” released in November 2016.

The Cook Islands are well protected from the commercialised world; no franchises, no big hotel chains... not even any traffic lights can be found in The Cooks!  The Cook Islands are one of the few remaining places on earth that offer a genuine vacation experience.  Head down to the beautiful Cook Islands for a week of fun running events.  The absolutely gorgeous clear lagoons and rich deep green rainforests interior make this destination an incredibly memorable running week.

Fun options:

  • Do the Round Rarotonga Road Race 2017 as a stopover to your way to Australia or New Zealand (or on your way home)!  Air New Zealand offers a stop over in Rarotonga FREE of charge on any Australia or New Zealand return ticket.  Ask your Friendly Downunder Travel Destination Specialist for more information. We can make it work for you, and you pay nor more for our services.
  • While you are in Rarotonga, check out the island of Aitutaki or Atiu.  Aitukaki is home to one of the world’s most beautiful lagoons where you can see as far under the water as you can above the water.  It's truly an amazing destination that will stay with you forever.  Atiu is the first place that Captain Cook discovered in the group of 15 islands, now called the Cook Islands.  It is home to the extremely rare Kopeka Birds which have a bat like behaviour.  Go deep into their caves and see them hanging upside down with Bird Man George.
