Five Places to Honeymoon in New Zealand

Thinking of heading to New Zealand for your honeymoon?  You’ll want to be sure that you’ve got these five locations added to your New Zealand itinerary.

1)   Lake Rotorua – The second-largest lake of the North Island offers stunning, peaceful scenery, geothermal lakes and the opportnity to learn a piece of Maori history by listening to one of the culture’s well-known legends – an enchanting love story.  Be sure to take a romantic cruise around Mokoia Island.

2)   Stewart Island – Located south of the South Island, Stewart island is truly remote.  With over 80% of the island designated as a national park, it’s an ideal place for bird-watching, hiking on one of the island’s many walking tracks and enjoying savoury and fresh New Zealand delicacies to devour.  In the evening, look up, as you may see the many colours of the Aurora Australis that appears every so often in the southern skies... so romantic!

3)   Waitomo Caves – this surreal and breathtaking experience includes travelling through a cave by boat, as well as a walking tour, and seeing millions of glow worms light up the cave ceiling like stars. Are you an adventurous couple?  Experience the underground chambers by abseil or even by a zip-line through the dark caves... an unforgettable experience for sure!  Blackwater rafting is not for the faint-hearted!

4)   Milford Sound – Beautiful and majestic, Milford Sound was formed by glaciers during the ice ages and has developed into a stunning fiord with vertical cliffs!  Rain or shine, it doesn’t matter: these fiords look incredible with pockets of water streams flowing down the sheer rock walls.  Another great way to experience ‘The Sound' is by seaplane as the bird’s-eye views are spectacular!

5)   Ninety Mile beach – if it’s a beach vacation you’re both craving, this spectacular coastal area boasts great surfing, incredible sunsets and pristine views.  It’s tough to drive in this area due to the changing tides, so if you’re planning to drive along the beach, you must be on a tour!  Boarding down the sand dunes is a bonus highlight.
