ITINERARY

Day 1 – Auckland to Hahei (Coromandel)

 

  • Depart from Auckland heading south-east stopping off at the famous Cathedral Cove.  Accessible only by foot or by boat, this beautiful coastal spot is one of the ‘must see’ sites on the Coromandel Peninsula.  You then drive to the unique Hot Water Beach where you can dig up your own personal spa pool in the sand (tide dependent).  Overnight in beach side cabins and enjoy a BBQ dinner. Day 2 – Hahei to Rotorua

 

  • Aarrive into Rotorua around lunchtime, an area known for its Maori heritage and thermal activity.  This gives you the opportunity to do some great optional activities like white water rafting, zorbing or the luge (additional cost).
  • In the evening, you will be welcomed into the authentic Tamaki Maori Village,  where  you  can  discover  and  learn  more  about  Maori  art  forms,  ancient  rituals  and traditions.  Sit down to a traditional Maori hangi (feast) with your Maori hosts.(B,D)

Day 3 – Rotorua to Whakahoro

 

  • Start the day with a visit to bubbling mud pools before travelling to the spectacular Huka Falls.  Then, visit the eco award-winning Blue Duck Lodge where you get the opportunity to take part in a farm adventure through this spectacular place, learning about the eco system and the farm along the way. 
  • Dinner is cooked using all local produce.  (B,D)

Day 4 – Whakahoro to National Park

  • Head back to the Tongariro National Park to give you the chance to hike the Tongariro Crossing; rated as New Zealand’s best one-day walk (additional costs may apply depending on weather).
  • Alternatively, other options include shorter walks around this volcanic region or visiting the Volcanic Centre Museum.  Accommodation tonight is at the Alpine Lodge. (B,D)

Day 5 – National Park to Wellington

 

  • Head to Wellington, New Zealand’s capital city. Here you will see parliament buildings, including the iconic Beehive. 
  • There is plenty to do in Wellington like visiting Te Papa, the national museum and art gallery or the botanical gardens. (B)

Day 6 - Wellington to Auckland

 

  • Today is an express journey from Wellington to Auckland. There will be a stop along the way for photo opportunities and to have lunch in the township of a dual World Heritage area - National Park. (B)

*Departs Auckland Tuesdays at 8am* and finishes in Auckland.

Valid for travel between: 06 October 2015 - 30 Mar 2016.  Package price is land only and does not include international airfare.  All bookings are subject to availability at the time of booking.  Prices advertised are subject to change without notice until such time as the package is booked and paid for.  Luggage should be restricted to 15kg in a single bag, plus a small day pack on this tour.  Overnight stay in Rotorua is in twin or single rooms only; if you have booked quad share you will share a twin room with one other person.  Upgrade accommodation is excluded in Hahei, and Doubtful Sound.  Standard accommodation is 6-share in Whakahoro.  Downunder Travel Ltd. is the agent/broker in this equation and for that reason is not responsible for any issues or incidents which result in clients expenditure outside of the package booked paid for and agreed upon.  Please advise your Downunder Travel Specialist should you be traveling on anything other than a Canadian or U.S. passport.  We highly recommend that all passengers protect themselves with cancellation / interruption insurance which will cover them against cancellations due to non pre-existing medical conditions which cause them penalties or other expenses.  We also highly recommend medical insurance for any travel outside of your home province.  Your Downunder Travel Specialist can assist with both Cancellation/Interruption Insurance and Medical Insurance.
