Our Favourite Christmas Markets in Australia

There’s something magical about being out and about during the holidays.  When you’re on vacation and you have a few people to cross off your Christmas gift list, there’s no gift more original than a gift from abroad!  They’ll treasure it for years to come.  I’ve pulled together some of the best markets in Australia that totally win at Christmas time.

1)      The Rocks Village Bizarre (13 Nov – 18 Dec 2016) – from entertainment to magic shows and handmade fashions, jewellery and textiles; you’ll find incredible gift and souvenir ideas right at one of Sydney’s most renowned harbourfronts.  Be enchanted and entertained with captivating characters, mysterious figures and shopfronts that come to life through incredible performances.  It’s truly bizarre... but totally fun!

2)      Queen Victoria Summer Night Markets (16 Nov 2016 – 08 Mar 2017) – While it may be winter for us, its summer time in Australia!  This is the 19th annual Summer Night Markets at the ever-famous, Queen Victoria Market!  Occurring every Wednesday, the warm summer nights will include some of the best in global street foods, bars, organic and artisan beauty products, unique handcrafts and art and of course, live musical entertainment to keep you energized.  Be sure to visit regularly as there’s always something new to see each week!

3)      The Collective Markets at South Bank, Brisbane (every weekend, year-round) – Find unique artisan or one-of-a-kind treasures in this massive market on Stanley Street Plaza!  This vibrant atmosphere is home to over 100 local artists, entrepreneurs and emerging designers.  You can find eclectic fashions, handmade jewellery, even pet products (you can’t forget about your furry friend patiently awaiting your return!).  While this market runs year-round, there tends to be a rise on Christmas and other festive goodies during the holiday seasons.

4)      Christmas Ladybird Popup Market, Perth (05 Nov– 17 Dec 2016) – Completely local, anything sold at this market is created from designers or craftsmen from Western Australia.  From beauty products to handmade clothing, unique gifting ideas, housewares, cards and more; this marketplace, located in Perth's largest shopping destination, showcases the very best of WA designed products while supporting Perth’s small local businesses.

5)      The Salamanca Market in Tasmania (every Saturday, year-round) – Tasmanian timber, handmade clothing, quirky gift items and more make up the lively and historic location of Salamanca Place!  If you’re coming from Hobart city, there’s a free Salamanca Shuttle bus that runs to and from the city centre to Salamanca Market each Saturday.  The City of Hobart puts together special events, choir performers and various activities during the holiday period, making the marketplace enchanting this time of year.
