Yarra Valley’s ‘Hop for Hope’

I recently visited the stunning Yarra Valley in Victoria.  While this region is predominantly known for its fine wines and delicious, world-renowned eats - and let me tell you, it never disappoints – I was here for a somewhat different reason.  My reason was to support Hop for Hope, an artistic collaboration between The Alannah and Madeline Foundation and the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery.

Hop for Hope had key Australian artists together as well as entrepreneurs to support the foundation, which strives to keep children safe from violence.  The event showcased everything from life-sized kangaroo sculptures created from fibreglass to performances by media personalities as well as sports stars, cartoonists, potters, painters and of course a variety of unique artwork which were donated all with one underlying theme in mind:  The theme of hope.

I caught up with Chocolaterie Managing Director, Leanne Neeland and she sums up the event and cause perfectly, “We have a beautiful destination ...visited by tens of thousands of people...we wanted to harness that into a good cause.”  With roughly 200,000 visitors and 40 acres of farm land, this free event offered great grounds for building awareness of such an important cause.  I had the privilege of being part of this event and seeing first-hand some of the initiatives the foundation does through creative works of art on display as a means of mass-awareness.

Year after year, The Alannah and Madeline Foundation runs a variety of events, marathons and campaigns in support of keeping children safe from violence, which primarily includes bullying.  The foundation continues to encourage and promote strong friendships, information for parents, and overall creating and reinforcing friendly, supportive school environments for students, especially children in their primary school years.

I am incredibly proud of where I come from (I grew up in Yarra Valley) and in addition to being such a beautiful location to visit, it’s a location that does so much for the community and its people.
