Cool Places in Western Australia

If there’s anything you absolutely need to check out in Western Australia, these are your ‘musts’!  From the gorgeous Indian Ocean Drive filled with incredible white-sandy beaches, wildflowers, and the world-famous Pinnacles, to incredible Wave Rock, formed billions of years ago; Western Australia offers travellers experiences like no other.  Here are my top experiences to add to your W.A. itinerary:

1)    Kimberley – This epic landscape is best viewed from above on a helicopter! But you can always visit by boat too.  With stunning landscapes that stretch on for miles, The Kimberley offers stunning waterways, long tides, red dirt tracks and ancient rocks and gorges that are absolutely breathtaking!

2)    Wave Rock – Shaped over 2.7 billion years ago, this prehistoric, granite, wave-like looking rock formation is large and quite the beauty to see up-close.  Be sure to climb up to the top to view some incredible farm lands and wilderness such as the country’s native birds as well as the region’s rare white kangaroos!

3)    Indian Ocean Drive  – This journey, from Exmouth to Perth, is incredibly scenic.  With stunning white beaches, coral reefs, canyons and national parks, your journey will be truly epic, especially when done on a self-drive!  Be sure to meet the dolphins at Monkey Mia, stop for breathtaking landscapes at Kalbarri and check out The Pinnacles’ ancient rock columns.

4)    Perth – Enjoy the relaxed but vibrant atmosphere that the city offers.  Where city-meets-beach, Perth treats guests to many beaches, stunning parks, colonial buildings and a lively City Centre with much to see and do.  Be sure to take a walking tour of the city with walking tour operators, Two Feet and a Heart Beat, for hidden gems and a historical overview of the city.

5)    Lake Hillier – Visit Lake Hillier and be ‘tickled pink’ with the lake’s pink hue.  Because of the high concentration of algae in the water, this gives the lake its soft pink tones.  For the best views and great picture-taking opportunities, head to the Pink Lake Lookout Point!

6)    Ningaloo Reef – The ultimate in marine wildlife experiences lives here: swim with the majestic whale sharks!  You can also enjoy a glass-bottom boat to see incredible coral formations and other marine life.  There’s much fun on land too: enjoy the many walking trails, four-wheel drive safari tours, and you may even catch a glimpse of the rare black-footed wallaby!
